After discussing the commission process with the client, Monty the long haired Daschund and the client came to my studio. It was great to meet the dog - he has a lovely character and very handsome!
Whilst chatting to the client in my studio I also took lots of photos of Monty. I then began working in clay to make a couple of maquettes/sketches. The client and I discussed which maquette he would like to develop into the final outcome.
As I worked on the final outcome I sent regular updates to the client to show how he was progressing. When I was happy with the result the client and Monty came to my studio to have a look. He was very happy with the final outcome and so I took the sculpture to the Bronze Foundry where the clay sculpture was cast using the ‘lost wax ‘process’.
The casting process takes between 6-8 weeks.
I have just collected the sculpture and thrilled with the result!
Bronze is my absolute favourite material and is such a wonderful material to use for a dog commission. The client chose to have a rich warm brown patina which I think works really well.
