Drawing at The Victoria and Albert Museum in London

Fancy trying something new within your art and drawing methods?

First of all, think of your space. Are you feeling challenged artistically within your surroundings?

One exercise I love to do at least twice a year, is to visit London for the day and explore the wonderful art galleries, especially one of my favourites - The Victoria and Albert Museum.

All you need is:

A portable sketch book

Your chosen materials (on this day, I took a few fine liners)

I then went exploring around the museum finding a suitable space where I wouldn't be disturbed or in anyone's way.

To really embrace and immerse yourself within the drawing, really focus on yourself in the present moment, try to understand what the artist was trying to portray, focus on the large details, focus on the intricate details. It can be daunting drawing when there are other people walking by, but one technique to help with this is to focus on your breating, relax and ground yourself in the now.

One of my favourite rooms at The Victoria and Albert Museum has the River God by Giambologna. Here I captured the pose, composition, form and movement.

There are some lovely terrocota models, historic pieces and gorgeous work floating around within the museum, a place definitely worth visiting!
