Last week, I participated in one of my preferred classes in East Sussex.
Utilizing charcoal and rubber, I studied the female figure in various poses.
The instructor guided us to examine the pose by beginning with the fetal position. It was delightful to use charcoal with long strokes to capture the curvature, enhancing the beauty of the human body.
We proceeded to examine the female form using swift, rapid strokes, focusing less on tone, shading, and blending, and more on linear marks. Each pose was held for three minutes before the model transitioned to a new one. This approach is consistently stimulating as it rigorously tests one's ability to assess perspective, depth, layering, and the effective use of space on the paper. I utilized A1 paper throughout the session.
