Techniques for using ink, stick and wash

Recently the Thursday morning drawing group made some lovely ink and stick studies of some old leather boots.

  • Firstly the students did an observational drawing on A3 cartridge paper of their chosen old leather boot.

  • Then they carefully went over the pencil line using an old stick/ kebab stick and Quink ink.

  • After the ink dried the students carefully rubbed the pencil lines away.

  • For the final stage of the drawing the students used small brushes and created layered washes on their drawings to enhance the forms using tone.
